A second welder on the floor? Cobot available off the shelf!

We help small and medium manufacturing companies evaluate if a welding robot makes sense for them. We evaluate the part, select the set, and conduct a demo. And we say upfront when a robot is the wrong answer.

Problem

Repetitive welds eat up the time of your best people

It's not about replacing the welder. It's about taking the boring, monotonous series off their hands — and giving them back the welds a robot will never do.

You won't find a good welder through an ad

Welders have been in the top ten deficit professions for years. Experienced ones are scarce, candidates often fail at the first sample. And the series waits.

Classic integrator: half a year project, €45k+ budget

Traditional automation is a 6–12 month project, requiring your own automation team and an estimate of €45–115k for one workstation. SMEs typically can't afford this. A cobot is a different league — but you need to know when it works and when you'll just waste your money.

You don't know where to start and if your part is suitable

Most conversations start with: 'We'd like to automate welding, but we don't know if it makes sense for our production.' This is exactly what we evaluate for free — comparing your photos, drawing, and description with our base of deployments and tests. Physical tests on your part (PoC) are done for a fee.

Avena Robotics — Poland-based support
Practice-based
Deployments in Polish SMEs

We combine experience in automation, robotics, and welding. We evaluate the application, select the configuration, and say upfront when a robot won't pay off — to deliver solutions that are practical, safe, and tailored to real production processes.

We work with small and medium workshops: manufacturers of steel structures, railings and gates, plants making serial components, and welding shops that have had their Kemppi for years and just want to simply add an arm. We arrive with the robot, run tests on your part, deploy the workstation and train the operator — our support stays with you from the needs analysis, through startup, to continuous technical care.

We don't sell robots for non-repeatable parts and don't make promises without confirming on a test. We deliver a complete set — and stay with you through the deployment.

We operate as an authorized commercial and technical partner of FAIRINO within Avena Robotics.

Qualification

Who a welding cobot makes sense for — and who it doesn't

An honest list. We prefer to say 'doesn't fit' before you deploy, rather than sell a workstation that won't work.

Works ✓

  • Repeatable welds of the same geometry

Same path, same parameters, same part in a series. Fillet, circumferential, linear. What a robot does better than a human — constant speed, constant torch distance, no fatigue.

  • Manufacturers of fences, railings and gates

A series of the same spans, frames, gates. Black steel, galvanized, stainless. Classic cobot application — short, repeatable welds in a jig.

  • Workshops with a welding bottleneck

Orders are waiting, welders can't keep up. The cobot takes over the series, your people move to tougher joints.

  • Manufacturers of electrical cabinets and sheet metal enclosures

Thin sheet 1–3 mm, MIG or laser. Key: repeatable fixturing and good fit-up quality.

  • Pipes, flanges, rotary elements

Circumferential weld on a positioner — positioner as 7th axis. Robot and positioner sync automatically.

  • CNC companies starting to offer welding

You buy a welding robot, you don't lose the CNC. One operator runs two machines.

  • Workshops that WANT to, but fear technology

You program by hand — guide the arm along the weld and save points. First startup: 2 h with our engineer.

Doesn't work ✗

  • Single parts, prototypes, unrepeated repairs

The robot learns a path to replay later. For 1–2 pieces, the learning time doesn't pay off — a manual welder is faster and more cost-effective.

  • Part out of arm reach (even with linear track)

Large steel structures, long beams, hulls, multi-meter tanks. This needs a full line of industrial robots — a cobot physically won't reach.

  • Non-repeatable part preparation

Large gaps, warpage after cutting, lacking chamfers. A welder corrects this 'by eye' on the fly; a robot without a Touch Sensing system (TAST) or vision system — doesn't.

  • Welds requiring constant human judgment

Aluminum of varying thickness with ongoing current adjustment, repair welds on worn parts, repairs of unknown geometry. Still the domain of a certified welder.

  • Scale requiring a full line

If you need to weld tens of thousands pieces a month and one workstation can't handle it — a classic line with automatic part feeding makes more sense, not a single cobot.

We prefer to say 'doesn't fit' before you deploy, rather than sell a workstation that won't work. We have a few such conversations in our database — details in the Case studies section below.

[Sector: Industrial manufacturing][Robot: WELD PRO FR20]

Boiler elements — series 80–120 pcs/mo

Challenge

Two certified welders occupied 60–70% of shifts on repeatable fillet welds for boilers. Series grew, staff didn't.

Solution

FR20 + Spartus EasyMIG 500DP on a fixed workstation. Operator (uncertified) handles loading. The robot welds 200–400 mm fillets on 6–10 mm steel.

[Sector: Fittings manufacturer][Robot: FR10 + WP220 positioner]

Circumferential weld pipe–flange fi 50–200

Challenge

The ~360° limit of the J6 axis blocked long circumferential welds. The operator manually turned the part between cycles — a bottleneck.

Solution

WP220 positioner as 7th axis synchronized with the arm in Welding Expert. Part rotation + torch movement controlled by one program.

[Sector: Electrotechnical industry][Robot: FR10 + laser adapter]

Laser welding electrical cabinets 1.5 mm

Challenge

Fear: 'the laser will evaporate the zinc / burn through 1.5 mm'. Manual welding generated deformation and grinding costs.

Solution

Test on customer's material — no deformations, minimal HAZ, clean weld. Success condition: fit-up precision <0.3 mm.

Challenge

Series of 500+ pcs/mo. took 3 shifts a day. Welders tired from repetitive work, errors increased by end of shift.

Challenge

Clients asked for 'complete part — machining + welding from one supplier'. Orders escaped to competitors.

Integration with existing RAYCUS welder

Challenge

The client already had a RAYCUS laser welder. Competitors proposed replacing the entire power source — cost +€7k.

Solution

Case #7 — When we said 'no'

Challenge

Request for a cobot for MIG/MAG welding of 2 mm stainless steel. The test showed part execution tolerance of ±3–4 mm.

Solution

Without Touch Sensing / Weld Navigator, the robot misses the weld. We said 'no' and explained why. The client returned 3 months later with unified series — then we deployed.

MULTILAYER — thick sheets S355 12–16 mm

Challenge

Multi-pass fillet welds 3–5 passes on S355. Manual welding required a technologist for each series — time-consuming and expensive.

Solution

WELD FLEX FR10 + client's Kemppi X8. DCM module controls parameters 'on the fly', MULTILAYER and TAST functions. Calibration with client's technologist — 2 days.
